First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl record album, recorded in the field and thus presumably monaural, Rounder 6002, mint vinyl in a very-good cardboard jacket which retains its full original gloss but which shows a "cut-out" hole to one corner and to which a previous owner has written "075" in black marker to verso. Adam and Cyprien Landreneau (fiddle and accordion) offer "La Robe de Rosalie," "Danse de Limonade," four others. "Bois Sec" Ardoin and Canray Fontenot (accordion and fiddle) offer "Hack a 'Tit Moreau," "Jug au Plombeau," three others. Canray Fontenot, born in 1922 in L'Anse aux Vaches, says he was playing bass fiddle behind his father's accordion from the age of 11, playing the old style Creole music "mostly for white people because black people had no money." He says he does not play "blues," nor was he consciously influenced by the blues, which he grew up considering "nasty, belonging in a saloon somewheres." If you played blues in someone's house they'd "throw you out for sure," he recalls. Reduced from $17.
