Red gilt stamped and illustrated cloth over boards, a "complete and revised edition," divided into three parts (one each by "Dinks", "Mayhew" and "Hutchinson"), frontispiece and 34 illustrations, some in the text, others full-page, Index, 663 pages, 7 page catalogue for other books by the same publisher, one-page illustrated ad for pistols and rifles. Covers soiled and worn, corners and spine ends bumped with wear, cloth torn at head of spine, both hinges cracked, back cover pulling loose from text block, several spots of foxing in the blank margin of one illustration. Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Frank Forester (illustrator). Complete and revised edition, vi + 663 pages + plates & ads. Black cover on boards, embossed decoration on front, back & spine. The book has been rebacked using the original front & back covers & spine, and has new endpapers. Lettering on the spine is faded, a 5/8" corner of the lower back cover has been damaged, with the top layer missing. The book is tight and securein its binding. There is age-tanning at the page edges, some foxing throughout, occasionally heavy (mainly on the first few pages or the margins) but mostly pale. Illustrated with engravings by Frank Forester - tissue protected colour frontispiece (this has foxing present), five tissue protected full page engravings, & many other text drawings. Occasional light pencil underlining noted. With all its faults, still a good tight copy of this classic work on the dog. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
