Hedley Donovan's own copy of Time's compilation of the remarks made by various individuals on the celebration of his appointment as editor-in-chief of all Time Inc. Publications. Illustrated with photographs and photo-montage endpapers. 1 vols. 8vo. His Own Copy. On April 16, 1964, the Time, Inc. Board of Directors, "acting on the suggestion of Henry R. Luce" named Hedley Donovan to its top position, editor-in-chief. Luce, Time co-founder and for 20 years editor-in-chief, was appointed editorial chairman, and at the New York Hilton on May 25 a dinner was held to honor the two men at which Luce, Donvan, and other Time Inc. executives spoke. This is a beautifully produced record of their remarks, including these by Donovan: "This [piece] appeared in the newspaper of Jefferson High School in Minneapolis, a publication that I'm afraid some of you don't follow as closely as you might: 'Hedley Donovan was selected home room reporter by his class for the Jeffersonian the first year that Mr. McRae sponsored it. Because of his fine contribution the first semester he was selected as assistant editor the second semester. Just recently Mr. Donovan was named Editor-in-Chief of Time-Life corporation'. End of item". (The headline of the article was "Reporter Steps Up"). The most desirable copy of a splendid icon of American journalism. Provenance: Estate oif Hedley Donovan Original red glazed calf, gilt rule on upper cover, "Hedley Donovan" stamped in gilt at lower right corner; fine Hedley Donovan's own copy of Time's compilation of the remarks made by various individuals on the celebration of his appointment as editor-in-chief of all Time Inc. Publications. Illustrated with photographs and photo-montage endpapers. 1 vols. 8vo.
