First Edition. Fine copy in the original title-blocked cloth. Remains particularly well-preserved overall; tight, bright, clean and strong.Literally as new and still in the publisher's protective shrink-wrap.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 268 pages; Physical description.: 268 p. (some folded) : chiefly ill. (chiefly col.) ; 28 cm. Notes: Biog. ; exhibs. ; awards ; bibl. Catalogue of an exhibition held at Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin), 21 July - 1 Nov. 2009. Bibliography: p. 261-263. Summary: This is a superbly illustrated look at the Fragile Absolutes project from renowned Irish artist Alan Phelan. Alan Phelan (b. 1968) is known for his complex works which create relationships between quite disparate elements of political history, cultural theory, popular culture, science fiction, and modified cars. Featuring more than 200 full-colour and black-and-white illustrations, this new volume is an illuminating document of his Fragile Absolutes project. The title of the project refers to the work by the Slovenian sociologist, philosopher, and cultural critic Slavoj Zizek, "The Fragile Absolute" - or, why is the Christian legacy worth fighting for? Phelan took the italicized words from the text and used them as random word associations to help create 15 ideas for new works realized in a variety of materials and processes, from hand-carved marble, through to video and papier mache sculpture. Subject: Phelan, Alan, 1968-. 1 Kg.

Dublin. Irish Museum of Modern Art. BARRY FLANAGAN: Sculpture 1965-2005. 230 pp., illustrated throughout in color and b&w. 4to, wraps. 2006.
Kissane, Sean. LEONORA CARRINGTON. 176 pages, including 100 color and 20 b&w plates. 4to, boards. Dublin, Irish Museum of Modern Art, 2013. This catalogue for a show in Dublin pays particular attention to Carrington's Irish mother and the legacy of that influence in her early life and throughout her career (the longest chapter in the book is called "The Celtic Surrealist"). A brief introduction supplies an overview of her life, with subsequent chapters treating her work thematically. Do they give awards for book design? I nominate this one. The vertical format mirrors the artist's signature elongated figures, the cover cut-out is elegant, the paper is good, and the illustrations are well-chosen and beautifully reproduced.
