Audience: General/trade. First edition "Fragments of Ancient Poetry" 1760; First edition of "Fingal: An Ancient Epic Poem in Six Books", 1762. Ossian was a third-century bard, according to Highland and Irish oral traditions. He told stories of his youth, his father, Fingal, and his son Oscar. James Macpherson, who compiled Ossian's stories, recounted in blindness, was born in the Highlands, 1736, in an area of the Jacobite uprising, 1745. He published the Ossianic poems to great success in the 1760s. Pressure rose to prove their authenticity. This history recounts the Ossianic timeline, 3rd century A.D. until 2010. Fine in fine dust jacket. Appears unread. Single small dot, front cover. First edition. Presumed 1st, no print line.
