First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First edition. Introduction by Nathaniel Benchley. Errata slip affixed on the title page correcting Mel Brooks as the author of "Death to a Salesman." Octavo. xv, 304pp. A near fine copy with lightly bumped corners in very good dust jacket with moderately rubbed front panel, spine is faded as usual due to color of printing on spine. Contains the first book appearance of "On the Sidewalk (after Reading, at Long Last, 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac)" by John Updike [Roberts B4; this piece was also printed, in 1960, in *Parodies*. An Anthology from Chaucer to Beerbohm-And After. Compiled. by Dwight MacDonald]. Additional contributions by John Steinbeck, E.B. White, Edmund Wilson, James Thurber, and more.
Condition: fine. Dust Jacket Condition: near fine. First Edition. 1st edition. Fine in a near fine dustjacket, fresh as a fountain soda. Black cloth, one of 2 bindings with no priority, despite guesses from Bowden D7a, since both were sold on publication day. But only our jacket is the 1st printing, and it is notoriously rare (go find another) because it was replaced almost immediately with a meeker, plainer jacket. Witty essays on the future that are dryer than Lawrence of Arabia. They're aimed at sex, love, and 10 other, less alluring subjects, and though we have all heard words of love it also has softer sounds like snaps, buttons, hooks, belts, and zippers.
