Text in French. Scarce book on Belgian Symbolist master Fernand Khnopff, exploring his link to and influence on the Vienna Secession, especially Klimt, whose shimmering paintings were highly influenced by Khnopff's mosaic patterns, femme fatales, and atmospheric landscapes. Khnopff was invited to participate in the first Vienna Secession, in which he exhibited no less than 20 paintings, and from then on he maintained a symbiotic relationship with the Secessionists. The book reproduces 36 works in color, along with a detailed listing of over 80 works, as well as views of Khnopff's residence and period photos of Vienna Secession exhibitions. Uncommon book, highly recommended.
