The original narrative hitherto unpublished by Father Vicente Santa Maria and further details by participants in the first explorations of the Bay's waters, edited by John Galvin, complete with 4 maps and 6 full color illustrations by Louis Choris who visited San Francisco as part of the Kotzebue expedition in 1815-1816. Beautiful book in Fine condition, small folio 12.5 inches in height by 8.75 inches in width, 130 pages including index, text in Spanish facsimile handwritten diary format and in English. Beautiful publication, very sound binding and high quality paper, untrimmed fore edge. No previous owner bookplate or writing. Jacket is near Fine a trace of fade to spine and a two inch tear on front panel, shows nicely in a new mylar sleeve. An ultra clean and most presentable Limited Edition.

Pale blue dust jacket has edgewear and chips, blue cloth covered text is without flaw. 9 X 12" 130 pages, 1.5 kg (may require extra postage), from 1971. One of 5,000 copies, this is the original narrative of the first Spanish entry into San Francisco Bay, 1775. With further details by participants in the first explorations of the Bay's waters, together with four contemporary maps and six illustrations in full colour from the brush and pencil of Louis Choris who was at San Francisco in 1816. Canizares, under Captain Ayala's orders surveyed the bay and produced the map in this volume.
