Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Jacket design by Kohar (illustrator). 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP) There are only a few other copies of this novel for sale on the Internet. None of these others is signed. Not only will this be the Only signed copy of this title for sale on the Internet, it will be the Only signed copy of any of the author's books written under his own name or his two pseudonyms, Kenneth Flagg and Fred Levon. Of this novel Elia Kazan wrote 'Mr. Flagg's novel has a combination that is rare. It has a speedy flowing style and still is penetrating in its perceptions'. You can see the covers of the book in the photographs. They are quite clean. They have a little bit of wear at the spine ends and there is a bump/crease off the top edge of the rear cover adjacent to the spine. The interior of the book is in very good condition. It is solidly bound, no issues in that regard. The pages are very clean. I turned over every one and found a total of four tiny spots. I didn't see any creasing or dogeared corners. The author's signed inscription is on the first front end paper and reads 'To Jess- with the warm regards of the author- Fred'. There are no other names to be found anywhere in the book, nor is there any extraneous writing, underlining, etc., to be found in the text of the book. There are some numbers and letters penned just off the top edge of the rear inside cover. They may be phone numbers, I'm not sure. There are no attachments in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photographs. It is NOT price-clipped. The flaps are in excellent condition. The jacket has a thin 2 inch tear off the bottom edge of the front near the spine, and another smaller tear off the bottom edge of the rear. You can see the small loss off the top edge of the spine. It doesn't reach the lettering of the title. You can see also that the spine is faded. There are also a few small instances of soiling on the covers. The jacket has already been fitted into a protective cover. L. Fred Ayvazian was a distinguished American author and physician. He was born in Ordu, Turkey in 1919 during the genocide of the Armenian people. His family escaped to the United States and settled in New York City. Between 1960 and 1970 he was the head doctor at Will Rogers Memorial Hospital, a historic tuberculosis sanatorium located at Saranac Lake in Essex County, New York. In 1975, while serving as professor of medicine at the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, he was co-developer of a "quick and easy blood test that could be used on a mass basis to detect lung cancer at an early and curable stage.".
