Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861) was a 19th Century artist in the Ukiyoe tradition of Japanese print-making. He is the only one of the many famous artists in this genre whose preparatory drawings have survived and this book therefore provides insight into intentions and creative process of this most famous of Japanese arts.
