Reprint Edition of the 1876 original published under an assumed name. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for F/O name on the front pastedown. Book Condition: Good; light wear to head, tail, tips, and bottom edge of boards; small spots of wear through fabric on head, tail, and front tips; light soiling to boards. No DJ. Blue cloth boards and spine with red lettering on the spine and front board; pastedown illustration on front board with black borders. 370 pp 12mo. From the F.M. Lupton website, there was a split in production between Lupton and Federal in 1902; this book appears to be in the 1902 Superb Series which had panels with one of 12 different pictures of women from different countries. This book is the story of a 17-year-old English girl who rejects the attentions of a rich landowner, to become instead a lady's companion and travel to Düsseldorf, where she can take voice lessons. The story follows her adventures and goes into detail on the artists and their lives and how music was rehearsed and performed by amateurs as well as professionals, using the German terms where appropriate. A clean very presentable copy.
