Damon Runyon's "Guys and Dolls" remains one of the great musical stage plays of the 20th century, presenting a performance spectacular that had, not only great music, but an inviting story line. The show was, of course, based on a story by Damon Runyon; the music and lyrics were by Frank Loesser; the dances and musical numbers were staged by Michael Kidd. George S. Kaufman accomplished the staging. ************************************* This is a souvenir program from an early 1950s production of "Guys and Dolls" that was performed in Syracuse New York, at the RKO Keith's Theatre. It starred Iva Withers, Julie Oshins, Norwood Smith, Pat Rooney, Susan Hight, B. S. Pully and Jack Prince. The program includes two copies of the theatre playbill. The program has photographs of all the stars and the creative genius's behind the show. Included in the 9" by 11 ½" press kit are 12 vintage photographs, including glamorous head shots of Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. Plus 20+ studio-mimeographed pages of promotional information (Synopsis, Cast List, Song List, Production Notes and more). The portfolio is in FINE condition, all contents equally pristine, the twelve fresh photos sport studio snipes on their reverses. All contained in a Fine 10" x 13" MGM printed envelope. In short, this original press kit looks untouched and is likely a rare survival. Press Kits from the 1950s are notoriously rare and this one has a provenance: it came directly from the collection of Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne (Letter of Authenticity included).

Props and costume plot bound in. Based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure," two short stories by Damon Runyon. The musical has had several Broadway and London revivals, as well as a 1955 film adaptation starring Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. Won five Tony Awards in 1951, including Best Musical. 1965 production starred Alan King as Nathan Detroit, Sheila MacRae as Adelaide, Jerry Orbach as Sky and Anita Gillette as Sarah. Set in Broadway, Save-a-Soul Mission, Havana, Cuba, and The Hot Box Club. Black titled wrappers. Title page present, with credits for story writer Damon Runyon, music and lyricist Frank Loesser, book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. 141 leaves, with last page of text numbered 2-7-50.
