First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near fine. Federal edition. Large octavo, 12 volumes. A near fine set, fresh and lovely, in contemporary 3/4 red morocco and marbled boards, with marbled endpapers and top edges gilt. Offsetting to one spread in volume I due to a laid-in news clipping, occasional gentle rubbing to corners, and some isolated scuffmarks to the spines of a few volumes, but really a handsome, attractive set overall. Handsome bookplate to the front paste-down of each volume. This is number 5 of 400 lmiited hand-numbered sets of the "Connoisseur's Federal Edition") (the limitation page also indicates a total limitation of 1,000 sets for the overall Federal edition). Printed on nicely textured watermarked paper, with series title pages and some illustrations printed on japanese vellum. An extremely attractive set for the Frankiln connoisseur. Uncommon, particularly in this handsome leather binding.
