First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Original publisher's wrappers. A fine fresh copy which appears to have never been read. Rare first edition of the highly elusive first collectible book devoted exclusively to the now legendary model, actress and sex symbol, with 39 black & white photographs of her in the early stages of her career. "While her husband served in the merchant marine during World War II, Monroe found a job inspecting parachutes at the Radioplane Company. Army photographers who had arrived at the plant to take commercial and military pictures of female war workers discovered her. From this first successful posing arose Monroe's fabled 'love affair' with the camera (particularly with still photography). She was sensual and at ease before the camera, and her direct sexualitymingled with her beauty, her innocence and her now lightened blonde hairaccounted for her popularity with photographers and filmmakers" (ANB). This book appeared in the early days of Monroe's fame; at the young age of 27, she had already appeared in such classic films as All About Eve, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire. Co-author Franklin was "the self-proclaimed King of Nostalgia and host of one of the more eccentric talk shows to appear on New York television serv[ing] up a crazy quilt of guests, topics and styles, mixing the famous with people on the fringe and the sights and sounds of the past with those that may have no future at all" (New York Times). Co-author Palmer was herself a model, as well as a print journalist.
