[NONE] 1948. (Mass market paperback) Very good. 112pp. 12mo. Light wear to the wrappers. Internally clean and bright.
First Australian Publication; 8vo; pp. stiff illustrated stapled wrapper; pages browned; worn at staples; a good copy. First published by New Century Publishers, Inc., U.S.A., 1948. The author was arrested on April 24, 1942, by the Gestapo. Inside Pankrats, the Prague prison house, he went through all the torments of hell that the Hitlerite hangmen could devise. The Nazis had hoped to extort a betrayal. When they failed, they murdered him on September 8, 1943. These "notes" were written under the shadow of the hangman's noose. Sheet by sheet the manuscript was smuggled out of prison, and printed by the author's wife after the liberation of Czechoslavakia.
