Left margin is rough as if removed from covers or larger reprint. Signed by author at top right! The author was associated with the University of Tennessee and the University of South Carolina during his distinguished career. The present exploratory study was concerned with the effects of total body X-irradition on the learning of a fairly complex water maze by rats. The performance of the two experimental groups as measured in terms of errors and time did not differ from that of the control group either in learning or retention. Negative results of the learning experiments are in accord with then current knowledge of the relatively high resistance of neural tissue to radiation. The author acknowledged the assistance of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission for the use of their facilities in irradiating the animals. The Journal of Comparative and Physiological Psychology was a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the American Psychological Association. It was established in 1921 as the result of a merger between two journals, Psychobiology (1918-1920) and the Journal of Animal Behavior (1911-1916), under the title Journal of Comparative Psychology. It was renamed Journal of Comparative and Physiological Psychology in 1947. Publication ceased in 1982 when the journal was split into Behavioral Neuroscience and the re-instated Journal of Comparative Psychology. The Journal of Comparative Psychology is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by the American Psychological Association. It covers research from a comparative perspective on the behavior, cognition, perception, and social relationships of diverse species. Reprinted from The Journal of Comparative and Physiological Psychology, Vol. 44, No. 2, April 1951.
