Black boards, with titles and illustrations stamped in metallic violet on spine and front board. Mild rubbing to foot of boards. Front hinge a bit soft. Textblock slightly toned. In a dust jacket with a few light scratches and a bit of moisture damage at foot. Inscribed by Neil Gaiman on the front free endpaper in silver ink. Gaiman has also contributed a hand-drawn illustration of Dream (Sandman). Considered one of the greatest graphic novel series of all time, "The Sandman" remains the only comic book or graphic novel to have won the prestigious World Fantasy Award (in 1991 and 2016). Volumes from the series have also been awarded with more than 26 Eisner Awards, a Bram Stoker Award and a Hugo Award. With public interest matching critical acclaim, the series was also among the first to appear on the NYT Best Seller list. "The Sandman" is also notable for bringing a new audience to the genre. In 2022, the graphic novel was adapted into a well-reviewed and popular television program. Neil Gaiman is one of the most celebrated authors in contemporary fantasy. In addition to the aforementioned honors, he has also received a British National Book Award and in 2008, became (and remains) the only author to win both a Newberry and Carnegie in the same year.
