Unter Verwendung von größtenteils unveröffentlichtem Bildmaterial, auch aus ausländischen Quellen, wird in eindringlicherweise der Kampf der Luftwaffe an allen Fronten dargestellt. Zahllose Bilder von allen Einsatzbereichen und viele Detailfotos zeichnen einen Querschnitt von den Begebenheiten, mit denen die deutschen Militärpiloten konfrontiert wurden. Die Bilder zeigen Stuka, Bomber und Jäger im Anflug, im Gefecht und nach ihren Missionen, Piloten, Bordschützen und Fallschirmspringer im Einsatz, Bodenpersonal bei der Wartung und Kommandeure bei der Lagebesprechung - und auch das traurige Resultat: Zerstörungen und Trümmerfelder. Das Buch gliedert sich nach Jahren und Kriegsschauplätzen. Zu jedem Bildkapitel informiert ein ausführlicher Textteil chronologisch über den Verlauf der Kampfhandlungen, die eigenen und die gegnerischen Verluste und über die operative Durchführung der Feldzüge. Genannt werden die eingesetzten Geschwader und die Typen der beteiligten Maschinen. Der Anhang gibt u. a. statistische Auskunft über die Flugzeugproduktion, die Einsatzstärke an den einzelnen Fronten, die Verluste und informiert über die Kommandostruktur der Luftwaffe. - Leistung und Untergang der deutschen Luftwaffe, vom ersten Kriegstag bis zum Zusammenbruch, werden in diesem Buch sehr gelungen in Form sachlicher kriegsgeschichtlicher Darstellung festgehalten. 263 p. viele Bildseiten mit zum Teil seltenen Aufnahmen - many rare photos.
