Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. 3 vols, large folio (17.5 by 14 inches). Pp 800, illustrated with over 800 engravings on wood. With a total of 20 colour maps, all but 2 double page, and 7 Railway, Postal and Telegraph maps. The Railway, Postal and Telegraph maps were single-sheet lists of towns, not actual maps, and were not bound in but left loose, and are frequently lacking. In this case 4 of the RPT maps are lacking, and vol II also lacks the Map of Victoria, showing average annual rainfall. Half dark maroon morocco, grey cloth boards titled to front covers in gilt, all edges gilt. Bindings are scuffed but firm. Scattered spotting and minor marks. Originally published in parts, the covers of one part are loosely inserted. A monumental work on the history, topography and wild life of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands. Extremely heavy: about 19 kg packed, and shipping abroad will be expensive, especially to Australia or New Zealand.
