Magazine / Periodical First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Folio. Stapled card wrappers, a little dusty and with short tears to spine ends. Tableau d'Honneur de la Guerre laid-in, as issued. Quite a nice, bright copy. L'Illustration was a weekly French newspaper founded by Édouard Charton and published in Paris from 1843 to 1944. It was noted for its publication of photography and artwork (in 1891 L'Illustration became the first French newspaper to publish a photograph, and in 1907 was the first to publish a colour photograph). During the Second World War L'Illustration was directed by Vichy collaborationist Jacques de Lesdain, and as a result was shut down following the 1944 Liberation of Paris.
