This Fourteenth Volume of the Annual Christmas Book from Cuneo Press is a blend of early Americana of historic England, a prose pageant of the great and popular stories of various eras. Original illustrations especially prepared for this volume. Clean, bright and unmarked red cloth with elaborate gilt design on the spine, gilt panel with red gothic-type lettering. Board edges and corners are rubbed. Top edge gilt. Fore-edge rough cut. Sewn binding tight and solid. Former owner name on paste-down. Rear endpapers have brownish spotting at lower hinge. Very attractive design with red script headings; each page in the stories has the book title in red on the verso and the story title on the recto, with large margins; illustrations at the beginning of each story, titled in red lettering, each specially prepared for this edition. Paper is heavy, pages quite clean, no markings of any kind. A very nice volume with stories by Anthony Trollope, Washington Irving, Oliver Goldsmith, Mary Noailles Murfee, J M Wilson, Bret Harte, and Pope Pius XII. 203 pages. 6.5 x 9.5 inches. 1955, The Cuno Press, Chicago, Illinois.

i-vi, 7-524 pages. Missing front flyleaf or two but, more significantly, missing text pages 525-527 (as called for by OCLC) and a rear flyleaf or two. Hardcover: H 22.5cm x L 14.25cm. Original full dark brown calf leather binding; boards rubbed/scuffed with some staining; board corners bumped and worn; mildly scratched into rear board is "L.L. Simmons [illegible]" with his boldly written ink signature on front free endpaper verso. Spine decorated with gilt bars and black title label which retains bright gilt lettering. Faded marbling to text block edges; marbled endpapers; double-column text throughout. First several leaves slightly pulled but binding otherwise firm. Toning to leaves throughout with shallow moisture stains at upper fore-edge margins. Book was acquired from a Demopolis, Alabama estate with L.L. Simmons evidently being a local late-19th century relation.
