Rickman's contributions are based on a stay in Russia 1916-1918 as a medic., Gorer's section is more psychological and touches on child-development, 2 of the 3 appendices concern Gorer's 'swaddling hypothesis' which had some subsequent success among those interested in applying psychoanalytic perspectives to national character.
