This first edition book covers the early mineral lines, it traces the growth of the British Railway system, and then explains simply how a railway is run. Chapters are devoted to organisation, timetables, locomotives, rolling stock, signalling, the permanent way etc. In addition to maps and diagrams there are more than 50 photographs. Hardback in good condition with tatty but almost complete dustjacket. These 1930s books tended to have flimsy dustjackets which have not survived. This one has some small areas of paper loss at the edges.15cm x 22.5cm.
