Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First edition. Illustrated by Lorence F. Bjorklund. Octavo. 222, [2] pp. Trifle worn and topedge with the tiniest bit of foxing, very near fine in a spine-sunned, very good dust jacket with a couple of tiny nicks. Inscribed on the front fly: "Love From cousin-sister Bobette Gugliotta." Above her Inscription is another, from Carlos Bibo: "Dear Zelda and Eduardo- Hope you enjoy this book as much as I have- Cousin-Sister Bobette is the 'greatest.' Love and fond recuerdos- Carlos Bibo." (The young hero of the story is named Carl Bibo, but we could find no record of him ever going by Carlos.) According to the jacket, "the unique customs and scenery of Ácoma form the background for the story, set in 1925 and based on real-life characters coming from vastly different cultures of American Indian and Jew." The author is described as a member of the Bibo family whose lives became entwined with the Ácoma Indians. Although we were unable to prove that "Carlos Bibo" is the main character of the story, still a nice association; both he and the author use the term "cousin-sister" in their inscriptions, a term of endearment used by the Ácoma in the book.
