Original dark green cloth, title in gilt on front cover and spine, 117 pp., frontispiece [portrait of Mary Ann Hafen], foreword, illustrated from photographs, appendices. Paher 753 says, "The author was the niece of the Utah pioneer, John Stucki, and mother of historian LeRoy R. Hafen. The work is one of a very few personal narratives of those who crossed the plains with handcarts. It describes the family's immigration from Switzerland to Utah and their subsequent settlement in Bunkerville." Mintz 196 says, "All handcart users had to walk, and she says of her mother, "By this time mother's feet were so swollen that she could not wear shoes, but had to wrap her feet with cloth." This is a tough book to find." Fine copy of a difficult title.
