Sein Werk ist durch eine ungewöhnliche Vielseitigkeit ausgezeichnet, könnte er doch mit demselben Recht als Embryologe, Histologe und vergleichender Anatom gerühmt werden. Warum Valentins Name trotzdem in unserer Zeit so wenig bekannt ist, ist schwer zu erklären. Als wesentlicher Grund dafür ist vielleicht die Tatsache zu erwähnen, daß Valentin keine eigentliche Schule zu gründen vermochte, obwohl mancher bei ihm Belehrung gesucht hat." Einleitung.
