A pair of volumes collecting the tales of Hans Christian Andersen, "The Longer Stories" here found in a "very good" 1948 octavo hardcover with NO dust jacket, the second volume being a more recent (1983) hefty octavo trade PAPERBACK, of 1,101 pp., as-new unread but with the corners of the front wrap starting to curl up a bit, the pair weighing in at about 4-1/2 pounds (2.1 kilos), which would make shipment outside the U.S. fairly pricey, the pair now combined into a single lot to consolidate domestic shipping. Seller: Sanctuary Books, A.B.A.A., New York, NY, U.S.A.
Condition: Near Fine. Seven heavy cardstock boards (about 16 by 15 inches), bound with gold rope; each page beautifully handwritten in black ink, and with full-color illustrations in ink and gouache. Faintly dust-soiled here and there; some bumping along the edges; nonetheless, absolutely lovely. The lettering is ornate and the artwork is accomplished -- clearly, quite a lot of time and care went into the production of this wonderfully lovely volume. Unique.
