Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good copy of a book which took more than 40 years to research about the earliest years of Melbourne and the Australian state of Victoria. Its 260 pages include a foreword by historian Geoffrey Blainey, a 23-chapter narrative with prologue and epilogue, 50 illustrations, a chronological selection of important documents, and 7 supplementary papers, for example about treaty documents. As you would expect, the acknowledgments, notes and index are also good. The book's still tightly bound, and printed on good quality paper. No markings to the text, minor marks of shelfwear and handling, just some small bumps and rubs mostly in the usual places, such as the outer corners and the top and bottom of the spine. Lightly fixed on (Post-It style) to the half-title page at the front is a slip of paper saying: "With compliments from the MCC Library staff + volunteers. Enjoy!" This could very easily be removed, but it's been kept because it adds (literally and metaphorically) a nice cheerful note.
