First Edition
Hardback (No Dust Wrapper.). First edition (first printing). Hardback. Physically 8" x 5¼" (0.4 kg); 190pp; Bibliography; From the preface: "THIS BOOK DOES not attempt to tell yet again the story of the quarrel between Tito and Stalin; that has already been done adequately and often. Instead, I have tried to use their dispute to illuminate the motives and intentions of the Soviet rulers. We need above everything else in politics some general workable theory about Soviet aims and methods; in particular how far war enters into their calculations. Without it, Stalin s policy is an uncharted sea; his actions spring up like unexpected, inexplicable storms threatening to involve our own craft in disaster. The quarrel between Tito and Stalin, though at first sight a local incident, does in fact offer valuable evidence from within on the true springs of action of modern communism. In that incident and in the apparently unrelated publication of Stalin s articles on Linguistics and his revival of the doctrine of Coexistence we have I believe an important clue to explaining the nature of the general crisis of world communism and socialism and of the Soviet Union s own appreciation of its relations with the rest of the world." || The book is on my shelves and will be carefully packed and posted from the pastoral paradise of Peasedown St. John, Bath, by a real bookseller in a real book shop - with my personal guarantee and my beady eye on the Consumer Contracts Regulations. REMEMBER! Buying my copy means the bookshop Jack Russells get their supper! My Book #167470|| Condition: Good. A pleasant enough reading copy. Gently faded at the spine. Edges of the text block lightly tanned. Text complete, clean and tight but a little age-tanned.
