Condition: Very good +. First edition thus. Octavo. 2 vols. xiv, 180, (2); (6), 399, (3)pp. Brown cloth spines lettered in gilt, over pictorial light brown boards. Both volumes are housed in publisher's matching slipcase entitled, "Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen." Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Andersen in Vol. I, and numerous hand-colored text drawings by Fritz Kredel in Vol. II. Edition limited to 1500 numbered sets (this is #138), signed on the limitation leaf by both Jean Hersholt and Fritz Kredel. Spines a bit dulled & darkened and there is a faint shadow on the front free endpaper of Vol. I from an old newspaper clipping. Slipcase lightly dusted and rubbed, but sound. Contents: v. 1. Hans Christian Andersen, the maker of fairy tales / edited by Jean Hersholt and illustrated with drawings by Fritz Kredel -- v. 2.
