Condition: Very good. - Quarto, 12 inches high by 8 inches wide. Hardcover, three volumes bound in yellow, green and red cloth titled in black on the spines with decorations and illustrations on the front boards, in the original glassine dust wrappers. The books are housed in a red slipcase with a paper label on its spine. The top edges of two of the glassine jackets are chipped. The slipcase is slightly rubbed & soiled and its label darkened. The pagination of each volume is as follows: 1) Ali Baba: vii, [3] & 51 pages and the colophon, illustrated with bright color lithographs by Edward Ardizzone; 2) The Ugly Duckling: 44 & [2] pages and the colophon, with bright color illustrations by Everett Gee Jackson; (3) The Sleeping Beauty: 43 & [2] pages and the colophon, illustrated with water colors by Sylvain Sauvage. Near fine in very good glassine jackets & slipcase. Limited edition of 2,500 sets, each volume numbered 1820. The individual volumes are as follows: 1) THE TALE OF ALI BABA & THE FORTY THIEVES Being literally translated from the Arabic into French bu J.C. Mardrus; and then translated into modern English by E. Powys Mathers. Illustrated by Edward Ardizzone. SIGNED ON THE COLOPHON BY EDWARD ARDIZZONE. 2) THE UGLY DUCKLING by Hans Christian Andersen. Signed by both the translator and illustrator to the limitations page. In the original full, pictorial cloth binding. Externally, excellent with minor shelf wear. Some fading and marks to the spines. A few light handling marks to the boards of 'Ali Baba' and 'The Ugly Duckling'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean. Ink signature to the limitations page of 'Ali Baba' and pencil signatures to the limitations page of 'the ugly duckling'. Slipcase is a trifle rubbed. Shelf wear to the edges and cracking to the front corners. Title plate is darkened and chipped. Fine. book.

Each is copy #216 of 2500 or 2000 numbered copies with many of the copies signed by the illustrators and/or the editor. The editor has SIGNED nine of the volumes. Illustrators who have SIGNED are Fritz Eichenberg, Everett Gee Jackson, Edward Ardizzone, Rafaello Busoni, Robert Lawson, and Ervine Metzl. Arthur Szyk and Fritz Kredel have not signed. Scarce to find a complete set, especially with all volumes having the same number and in this condition. Near Fine in Near Fine slipcases, one with a worn lower corner.
