Originally drawn to the area to investigate Shango worship among the Yoruban natives from Nigeria, the study evolved into a larger investigation of cultural retention & change among "New World Negro peoples." First published in 1947, this is the 964 reprint from Octagon), in 351 pages with References + Index + 8 pages of black-and-white photos on glossy page stock in center. With red cloth-covered boards stamped with a gilt design to front/lettering to spine, this hardcover 8vo is in Near Fine condition: just removed from storage, but all corners show bumping. Else, completely clean & bright, binding straight & strong, pages mildly tanned but completely unmarked. Very mild rubbing to extremities & light stain to fore edge (photo 4). No DJ.
