, Hinshelwood, Cyril Norman, 1897-1967. The kinetics of chemical change. Oxford, The Clarendon Press, 1945, reprinted, vi, 274pp., good blue cloth, but I find very neat red pencil underlining on 3 pages, and some pencil notes or underlining on 4 pages, still quite good copy, previous owner's name: Leland Estes MIT. First published in 1926 as Kinetics of Chemical Change in Gaseous Systems, with later 2d and 3d revised editions. "To-day a fourth edition which attempted any kind of comprehensiveness would have to be an encyclopaedic volume of formidable dimensions" he writes in the preface here, dated 1940. Hinshelwood won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1956, his work on bacterial cells was useful in the development of antibiotics.
