Half Leather. Condition: Good +. First Edition. Quarto (11.5" x 9.5"). Blue cloth covered boards with dark leather corners and spine. 5 raised bands and gilt stamped title on the spine. Marbled end sheets. [7], 244 pages, [3]. Leather has light to moderate rubs to the outer joints, corners, spine bands, and board edges. Pages 165, 166, 167, 169, 170, and 173 have light pencil note additions to the Livingston family genealogical trees. First issued in wraps this is a later custom binding with added end sheets in front and in back. A light pencil note on the title page reads - "1/2 calf same as Blackwood .?". Gift inscription written on the first original blank end sheet - "Matilda Antonia Rives from her Father. New York May 1850". Armorial book plate of "Francis Bayard Rives" located on the front paste down. Sabin 32489 "First issued in parts. Two hundred and fifty copies printed; now very scarce. Some copies have the imprint, New York: George P. Putnam. 1851.".
