Text block clean and free from markings. Charcoal end papers. Original owners name and date on ffl. Cyrus Woodman, November 10, 1886. Woodman was a Mainer, born in Buxton, educated at Bowdoin and Harvard, who eventually had a big imprint on development of 19th century Wisconsin along with his good friend and fellow Mainer Cad Washburn. Woodman s brother, Horatio, was a literary agent and a prime mover of Boston s Saturday Club which eventually begat the Atlantic Monthly. In addition to a sermon by the church s longtime pastor, Rev. Alexander McKenzie, the celebration included addresses by Oliver Wendall Holmes, Jr, Dr, Oliver Wendall Holmes, Charles W. Eliot, William E. Russell, and many others along with letters submitted by a collection of Cambridge grandees.
