Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Hannes Bok (illustrator). First Edition. Arkham House, Sauk City, WI, 1946. First edition, first printing, black cloth Hardcover with gold gilt spine printing and original DJ, xxvi + 476 pp. 3004 copies printed. Foreward by August Derleth who regarded these 23 stories and 2 poems as Howard's best work. Color DJ art by Hannes Bok. Memoria of REH by H.P. Lovecraft and E.H. Price. Enclosed is an original note SIGNED by the estimable Roy A. Squires with info about this copy. Roy (1920-1988) was a highly regarded publisher, collector, and SF/fantasy expert. I purchased this from Roy in December 1974 at which time he apologized for the circular glass-bottom stains on the back of the DJ. I asked about this and he later responded that this happened at the first meeting of The Praed St. Irregulars, a group devoted to Derleth's Solar Pons stories. The guilty party was the host of that historic meeting (more info on the note). The DJ front remains bright and attractive but has a few chips missing at top & bottom of spine and at bottom leftg of front (doesn't impact Bok illustration or printing. The book is near fine with a couple small bumps at bottom edge of back cover and slight browning of endpapers near spine. Interior fine. Highly collectible.
