A black and white photo of the author and a black and white photo of James W. State, First Representative from Clinch County back to back as the frontispiece, plus 25 other black and white captioned photos of people, buildings and places. Green cloth with gilt letters on the spine. No dust jacket. Chapter XIV comprises "Sketches of Lives of Clinch County Officers, 1850-1916. Alphabetically Arranged." Clinch County is a county located in the southeastern part of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,749. The county seat is Homerville. The county was created on February 14, 1850, named in honor of Duncan Lamont Clinch. Most of Clinch County is located in the Upper Suwannee River sub-basin of the Suwannee River basin. Eastern and southeastern portions of the county lie within the Okefenokee Swamp. Duncan Lamont Clinch (1787 - 1849 was an American army officer and slave-plantation owner who served as a commander during the War of 1812, and First and Second Seminole Wars. In 1816, he led an attack on Negro Fort, the first battle of the Seminole Wars. He was born and lived in Homerville, Clinch County, Georgia his entire life. Folks Huxford (1893-1981) was an historian, author, and Clinch County Probate Judge. From early childhood, he had a keen interest in the pioneer families of South Georgia and spent much of his time going from home to home talking to these old pioneers and collecting their family histories.
