Hardcover. Condition: Good+. No Jacket. One of the objections that arises when purchasing an encyclopedia set is that they rapidly become out-of-date because events in the world do not stop just because a set of books is printed. Publishers know this and have provided additional resources for encyclopedia owners to obtain updated information. One of the more common historical methods was to provide an annual update volume to the buyer for a set price and period of time. For sale is a set of nine volumes of the standard format annual yearbooks describing the events in the 1960s as used to update the Funk & Wagnall's Encyclopedia. This provides the historical researcher a unique chance to see how events were integrated into our worldview at the time they happened during the 1960s. This update method required co-ordination of many resources and size of each volume expanded during the period. 4,909 total pages (1961 ? 389pp to 1969- 628pp.). 26 editors employed (1961 - 2 to 1969 ? 10). 839 listed authors (1961- 105 to 1969 ? 112). But the most interesting development was the new method of expression, the Photo Essay. 59 photo essays (1963 had the 1st, refined to 7 in 1969). Photo essays expanded with the lowering cost of printing color photographs. An average of one unique essay per yearbook on topics ranging from Civil Rights, Olympic Games, U.S.A. Presidential Elections, to 1960's Impact of Youth. Due to popular culture emphasis and pace of reporting, there were most always photo essays in 7 categories: (1) World Affairs; (2) US National Affairs; (3) People in the News; (4) Literature and the Arts; (5) Entertainment; (6) Sports, and (7) Space/Medicine/Science. Hardcovers have green leatherette boards, black shadow boxes with gold lettering on spine, oval seal on front, but no dust jackets. Wear along edges. Interior is tight, clean, and unmarked. ? Size: 8vo ? over 7¾ - 9¾" tall, 4,909pp. ? Condition: Set of 9 Good Plus Hardcovers without Jackets ? Always privately owned. Copyrights in year following year covered. For example, 1961 yearbook copyrighted 1962. Printed in the U.S.A. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR.
