Irving Langmuir (1881-1957) won the 1932 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his discoveries and investigations in surface chemistry." According to the D.S.B. (vol. VIII, p. 25): "Langmuir received 63 patents and published over 200 papers and reports between 1906 and 1956. Virtually all his papers appear in the 12-vol. memorial edition of THE COLLECTED WORKS OF IRVING LANGMUIR.
