Brown and white illustrated paper covers have light bumping and scuffing to edges and corners. Binding tight (staple bound). Pages clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-library. Black and white illustrations. [From Preface] At a meeting of The QK Club in Bozeman in October, 1952, I read a paper about road agents in Yellowstone National Park. It was written with the conviction that stories of the five stage holdups should be brought together and recorded; and the belief they might be even more fascinating than if dreamed up by an imaginative writer. The 1952 Brand Book of The Westerners, Denver Posse, included this story, after the skilled hand of Editor Elvon L. Howe smoothed the rough spots, and Artist H. D. Bugbee had sketched the six-horse stage in the 1887 robbery (see cover). Except for minor changes, more illustrations, some notes and an index, this text is as it appeared in the Brand Book. I had attended a trial back in 1897 resulting in the conviction of two Yellowstone acquaintances for a holdup of stagecoaches on Solfatara Plateau. In 1915 I called on an old friend, Ed Sheffield, at his cabin near the south entrance and had dinner with him and his friend Edward B. Trafton, who two months later began a five-year term in Leavenworth for the 1914 stagecoach holdup at Shoshone Point. Apparent reluctance of park people to adequately publicize stage holdups when they occurred, is understandable when one realized the officials had the responsibility of providing protection for the persons and property of visitors; and the business people naturally wished to mitigate statements which might deter anyone from coming to the park. Students of park history are handicapped not only because of the lack of material, but because much that did get into print, due to a persistent hush-hush policy has little historical value.

Paperback. Condition: NEW. Print on Demand. This book seeks to uncover potential chemosterilizing agents effective against the boll weevil. Over 200 compounds were analyzed by the author in isolation and when combined to create various mixtures. The author explains that no ideal solution was found and that the search for more effective and less toxic boll weevil chemosterilants should continue, but also notes that information on the compounds identified within can aid in that search. This book adds to the existing body of research on chemosterilization as a method of pest control. Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
