Hardcover. 319 pgs., 8vo. Taut medical suspense novel centered around a botched coed abortion 'case', and a determined pathologist who risks his career to find the responsible party. Takes place in the days before Roe v. Wade. Fresh out of medical internship training himself, this book won Crichton the Edgar Award at age 26, launching his great writing career instead of an expected medical one. A gripping read, and full of medical diagnostics. Fine condition in fine dust jacket. First printing thus. This Dutton/Penguin printing made the book available once again, long after the 1968 true first edition that was published by NAL.

Hardcover, 8vo. Condition: Fair condition. Book Club edition. 243 pgs. The book club copy of Crichton's rare first book, and it comes with a nice dust jacket. Plus the defects -- Lending library stamps, writing, pocket remains, and a 4" missing piece from rear free endpaper. A few pages also have small brown marginal stains, of unknown substance (but apropos to a mystery book); also a prior owner stamp. But the endpaper flaps are not glued down, and jacket and cloth condition are really very good. Probably the only way to get hold of this early title !.
