Please feel free to ask for particulars and/or additional photographs. . Donald V. Jewell grew in the Bay area, .Early on he developed a passion for trains and took thousands of Photographs as he matured. Robert J. YanoseyfoundedMorning Sun Booksin 1986 after a 15-year railroading career as an Erie-Lackawanna towerman, Penn Central trainmaster, and Conrail regional official. In late 1978, he accepted the position of Chief, Bureau of Rail Operations for NJDOT, a position that morphed into Director of Rail Transportation for NJ Transit in 1980. Sensing the railroading he enjoyed was becoming a thing of the past, Bob left and created Morning Sun Books as a new career and means to work with and preserve the railroading he loved. For his first effort, he chose a subject most fans veered away from, but one with which he was quite familiar: the Penn Central. In exceptionally good condition.

Cloth Hardcover. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 128p. A pristine copy in an as new dust jacket. The author grew up in the Richmond District near Golden Gate Park and began taking pictures at age 9 of the SP trains and covered over the next two decades the Bayshore Yard, the North Bay, Oakland, the Street cars and every aspect of rail in the San Francisco region. This, of course, was the golden era when "The City" as we called it was becoming known as the Paris of the West. Here there are hundreds of color pictures when the zebra stripe, the Warbonnet and the last great era of trains were still central though they were soon to lose much of their lustre. The streetcars and cable cars are also featured.
