Book
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. Reprint. Wraps (PB) in near fine condition with former owners name written in ink 5 times., on cover, inside cover, on title page and back cover. The name written in the book is actually the author of this work from around 1852. I'm assuming its the former owner unless there is something going on in Volcano Ca. we should all know about. This remarkable record of a California miner in the 1850s is an important--and in many ways unique--contribution to our knowledge of the Gold Rush. In a tempestuous period in which there was no newspaper to record the daily life of the busy towns of Volcano and Jackson, Doble recorded much of value. He was a man whose mind was concerned with details. Because he did not know what to leave out of his letters and journal, he put everything in, bringing his times vividly to life. 304 pages with photos and illustrations + index. Included are post card from the publishers and internet map of Mokelumne Hill.
