Hardcover. Condition: Good+. Revised Edition of the 1895 original. John Henry Comstock (1849 - 1931) was an eminent researcher in entomology and arachnology and a leading educator. His work provided the basis for classification of butterflies, moths, and scale insects. In 1878 Comstock married Anna Botsford. Anna also studied entomology: she earned a degree and worked with her husband to write and illustrate books and articles on the subject. Her beautiful wood engravings illustrate their work. Both became professors of Nature Studies at Cornell. Anna Botsford Comstock was the first female professor at Cornell. This copy is good in green cloth with silver titles and illustrations on the spine and front cover. Moderate soiling and scuffing on both covers. Binding is sound however, and the text is clean and unmarked with just some slight age toning. The personal bookplate of a previous owner is affixed to the ffep. No other marks or damage. DG.
