Collates complete with all illustrations, including the frontis. A scarce volume of 19th century humor looking at the people and stories of Surry County, North Carolina. Hardin Edward Taliaferro (1811-1875) was a southern American humorist and Baptist preacher born near Pine Ridge in Surry County, North Carolina. He was raised in Surry County, but he moved to Tennessee and Alabama and spent much of his life as a Baptist preacher in Alabama. This is his most famous book and is drawn on the people and places in old Surry County.
