First Edition
Cloth. Condition: Good Plus. First Edition. Illustrated. 239 pages. First Edition copy of what most consider the best golf book of the 20th century. A period advertisement for the book reads: "Bobby Jones---the most popular figure in the world of sports today---winner in the same season of both American and British open championships---reveals his golf history and the methods of play that have made him 'the greatest golfer of all time." Grantland Rice writes in the forward "The start of Bobby Jones' career to date is one of the most interesting episodes in all sport, one of the most unusual of all careers. The story of Bobby Jones is truth that is stranger and far more interesting than fiction, a saga of youth that could only be sung in the modern game." By the end of his short career in 1930 Jones had won the U.S. Open four times, the U.S. Amateur five times, the British Open three times, and the British Amateur once. Green cloth bright, spine slightly discolored. Pastedowns and endpapers clean and bright with no cracking to interior gutters. Pages adjacent to the photographs have a light tan offset, otherwise, a clean copy throughout. No former owner name or bookplate, no marginalia, underlining, soiling, creases, or tears. Covers protected in mylar. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Original green and tan cloth with gilt lettering and illustration of crossed clubs, slight wear to extremities. Front free endpaper with former owner name upper left, no cracking to interior gutters. Following the 1927 conclusion of the printed Chronology of The Major Events in the Golf Life of Bobby Jones, the owner continued writing about Jones' tournaments with the last entry being Summer of 1930 when Jones captured the Open Championship for the third time. The front and rear pastedowns have the front and rear panels of the very scarce original dust jacket affixed to them. Unique copy. Covers protected in mylar. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
