Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Printed in Germany. Date on the title page. First English Edition. Introduction, Footnotes, Indices, List of Quotations, Errata; xxxvi, 580 pages. This book is of mixed condition---the original dark blue cloth on the covers is excellent, and the gilt lettering about as bright as when first issued; HOWEVER, the base of the spine has a serious chip (1/4" 1/2"), that does not affect the strength of the binding. The interior is creamy-bright and completely clean. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] The spine of the original sturdy dustjacket has been reinforced and has discoloration on the front panel. [Visible in the images.] As early as 1893, because of "anti-Semitic movements both in Germany and Austria doing no end of harm," Dr. Bloch was appealed to as "the Hercules of the anti-Semitic Augean stables, to work up the subject matter of Jewish apologetics into literary shape. . . to refute all the slanders circulated against the Talmud, the Shulchan Aruch, and other literary monuments of Judaism, all the innumerable textual falsifications perpetrated against them, and to explain their nature and origin. § As this work was not planned as a controversial weapon, but as a book of information and reference for all those who are in quest of enlightenment---jurists, theologians, publicists---the provisions of Canonical Law, the enunciations of the Church Fathers, and the maxims of Moral Theology are often quoted for comparative purposes." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. Please note that, due to COVID, overseas shipping may incur unusual delays.
