Miss Sternberg was one of them. Although she experienced incredible physical and mental sufferings, her life was spared because her nursing skills were useful to the Nazis. Her account of the monstrous deeds performed in Auschwitz is given in a quiet, almost objective manner. Her book reminds us once more of the insane devastations of war.
