Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition Signed
Paper Ephemera. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. A unique item. Offered is an original, typed and signed two-page letter (lacks original envelope) dated January 26, 1989 on Portland Arts & Lectures stationery from Julie Mancini and Megan McMorran requesting Mr. Hockney's participation "as a featured speaker in an ART/AIDS benefit in Portland, Oregon, April 25, 1989." The letter continues, reading in short part: "Portland has a thriving arts community that will respond warmly to your visit. ART/AIDS feels 'An Evening With David Hockney' will draw the attention it needs for a successful fundraiser. If you haven't been here before, we can tell you the northwest offers much in the way of scenery, good food, nice, appreciative people, space, and quiet. But then, having spoken with former Oregonian, Ms. Colman [Karen Colman of David Hockney's staff], can tell you that. Requests for you are frequent. One could say deafening. Perhaps some more information will persuade you to come [what follows is lengthy information on Portland Arts & Lectures, fee, benefits and other details]." Attached to the letter is a one-page list of previous Portland Arts and Lectures Speakers. Lacks original mailing envelope, the letter is stapled to the upper left corner. Signed by Author(s).
