Decorative Cloth. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. The Wishing Shoe by Frank Jupo was published by Abelard-Schuman, Inc., New York, in 1955. An ex-library copy, this 95-page, 5 1/4" X 8", thought-to-be First Edition offering is in G/G condition. Both book and dust jacket appear to have been enjoyed by many, many interested readers/perusers, based upon the general physical shape of same. The book exhibits several of the standard library markings, most noticeably a 3" X 6" area of roughness on front loose end page(apparently caused by removal of a circulation card pocket, perhaps?). Endpapers front and back as well as text's pages have yellowed somewhat, and random, light foxing on margins of numerous pages is seen. Noticeable shelf wear evident along bottom edges of both front/back cover boards. Pages 29-30 have a portion of their upper, outside corner missing, measuring approximately 1 1/4" down X 1 3/4" over. The dust jacket is price clipped on both inside flaps, and rather modest shelf wear is observed at top and bottom edges of jacket's spine. Interestingly, the jacket is in better shape than the book it's been protecting--it's usually the other way around, as you probably know! From front inside jacket flap, "A delightful fantasy for boys and girls which, in the end, points up that 'Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home'. While they're discovering this homely truism, children will have a wonderful time sharing the adventures of Mr. Pim and his children, Jeff and June--all brought about by the wishing shoe." Enough. . I don't wish to divulge any more of this fun-loving farce, which is wonderfully complemented by the charming Drawings of the author, a former survivor of Hitler's Gestapo prison system(the Czechoslovakian branch, truth be told). This really is a slice of mid-1950's Americana from the mind of a man who had seen much of the world's ugliness firsthand, but who, remarkably, was able to preserve his lively, boundless sense of humor and ridiculousness to produce a story that I believe will still hold up to today's young readers' standards for what constitutes fun. See if you agree, Reader. Thank you!!.
